  • Obesity or Overweight is the most common metabolic disorder in humans.

    Our body is the product of food & any disease is caused as a result of difference between the wholesome and unwholesome diet.

    Factors contributing to Obesity
    There are various reasons that can cause obesity, there is a deep connection between the body & brain integrated a healths whole. Our thoughts influence and affect our health. Cravings & food addictions, mental & emotional influences, cultural influences & socio-economic status all can effect. Imbalance in hormones like Estrogen & Androgen may play a role in adipose tissue deposition and in rare instances hypothyroidism can be a contributing factor towards putting on weight.

    Ayurvedic perspective

    In Ayurveda, obesity has been described as “medorog” which indicates the diseased state of adipose tissue and muscle tissue or obese. Due to excessive eating of heavy, cold, sweet & oily foods, Ama (indigestible food particles) accumulates in the small intestines and retains there due to fermentation and putrefaction in the form of excess fat. Hence, Kapha imbalance is considered the primary cause of obesity in Ayurveda.

    Weight Management in Ayurveda

    Panchakarma in Weight Management

    The most effective treatment for managing weight is pancha karma, a process of cleansing and rejuvenating the body by choosing specific procedures out of the five main Panchakarma procedures :

    1. Udvartana Massage
      This is an effective ayurvedic massage that involves the application of ayurvedic herbal powder/paste all over the body to reduce weight, revitalizes the skin, helps in removing the cellulite, even recommended for the women who put on weight after the child birth and to tone up and strengthen the muscles.
    2. Vaman Kriya ( Emesis)
      This Panchakarma procedure is recommended in specific conditions depending on the vitiated doshas. This procedure involves deep bio- purificatory cleansing to help reduce weight.
    3. Massage And Steam
      This procedure is a prerequisite in Panchakarma procedure and helps in releasing the impurities in the form of sweat and relaxes the tense muscles and makes you feel relaxed and lighter in the body.

    Ayurvedic Diet

    • Avoid Kapha aggravating foods.
    • Favour farm fresh or organic foods & avoid packaged or frozen foods.
    • Avoid foods with artificial colors, preservatives, carbohydrates & fast foods.
    • Consume foods with six tastes according to Ayurveda.
    • Sweet : sweet potato, honey
    • Sour : cherries, berries, yoghurt that are anti-oxidents & rich in phytochemicals.
    • Salt : Seaweed
